Why We Must Meditate in This Era (Part 2)

4. The Difference Between ‘Knowing’ the Word and Being ‘Captured’ by It

The more sermons we hear, the easier it is to fall into the illusion that we truly “know” the Word. However, Scripture clearly commands us to “meditate on it day and night.” True meditation is not about the Word brushing past us like a fleeting breeze; it is about becoming a being deeply rooted in the Word.

Meditation is the sacred time we allow the Word to dwell within us, rather than just passing through our minds. In that process, the following occurs:

  • The Word shatters our self-justification.
  • It exposes our repetitive patterns of sin.
  • It corrects our distorted images of God.
  • Ultimately, it leads us to Christ.

This kind of transformation does not happen through speed-reading.

5. The Value of Meditation Heightened in the AI Era

Ironically, the AI era makes the value of meditating on the Word even more distinct. We have reached a point where we must distinguish between:

  • Information or Transformation?
  • Accumulation of knowledge or Deepening of relationship?
  • Consumption or Obedience?

AI can be a powerful tool, but personal meditation is irreplaceable. While AI can explain the context of a text, it cannot perform the spiritual work of reflecting one’s soul under the illumination of the Holy Spirit.

Conclusion: Meditation as a Timeless Spiritual Act

In a flood of information, what we need most is not more resources or more sermons. It is the time for “me” to hold onto even a single verse and wrestle with it.

As AI advances, we will obtain more answers than ever before. However, faith does not grow through “those who know many answers,” but through “those who internalize and obey the Word of God.”

Meditation is a holy discipline that resists speed. It is a breakwater that protects the soul in an age of information overload. Above all, it is the space where an actual encounter with God takes place.

Ultimately, the question is this: Are we consuming the Word, or are we dwelling before it?

In this era, meditation is not an option. It is a matter of survival.
